The Spayathon for Puerto Rico is a coalition of 26 organizations that have been brought together by the Humane Society of the United States to champion an island-wide spay and neuter campaign in Puerto Rico. As a collective group, we are aiming to safely spay and neuter over 30,000 dogs and cats through four, high-quality/high-volume spay and neuter clinics held between June 2018 to May 2019.
Round 1 – June 3-9, 2018 (5,608 animals safely spayed/neutered and vaccinated)
Round 2 – November 3-9, 2018 (8,102 animals safely spayed/neutered and vaccinated)
Round 3 – February 3-9, 2019
Round 4 – May 3-9, 2019
In addition to sterilization of individual animals, the goal of the Spayathon initiative is to simultaneously provide high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter training for the veterinarians of Puerto Rico. Following the conclusion of the fourth and final clinic, the Humane Society of the United States will be donating all of the equipment used during the initiative to the local veterinary workforce. By providing comprehensive training, along with donation of high quality surgical and anesthetic equipment used during the clinics, we hope to promote a sustainable effort for continued animal welfare in Puerto Rico.
ViDAS could not be more proud to be a part of this phenomenal coalition in order to provide high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter for the dogs and cats of Puerto Rico. Round 1 and 2 of the Spayathon were very succesful! ViDAS performed 5,198 spay and neuter surgeries in total between these two clinics! By the end of the Spayathon, our organization hopes to safely perform over 10,000 spays and neuters on dogs and cats.
Round 3 of the Spayathon is coming up in February of 2019! ViDAS will be announcing the location of our February clinic soon! Please visit our Get Involved page to see how you can become a part of this amazing coalition.
